We help primary-age children to build confidence, feel proud and develop creativity and practical skills by supporting them to lead their own learning through hands on woodwork in a safe, inspiring environment.
At Smart Hands Studio, we are proud to offer meaningful alternative provision for children and young people who benefit from a more hands-on, child-led approach to learning. Our woodwork sessions are designed to meet individual needs in a calm, low-demand and sensory-friendly environment where each child can feel safe, valued and successful.
Through child-led woodwork at Smart Hands Studio, children develop much more than practical skills. They have the opportunity to:
We prioritise the process over the product. Every session at Smart Hands Studio is guided by the child’s interests and abilities, and we adapt tasks and tools to suit their needs. Our space is intentionally calm and sensory-aware, which helps children regulate and engage comfortably.
We believe that successful alternative provision relies on strong collaboration. We work closely with parents and schools to agree individual targets. Progress is monitored and outcomes shared with all parties. Prior to starting, a risk assessment is completed, making safety and well-being paramount.
We offer places commissioned directly by schools and trusts, as well as privately funded places paid by parents.
We are proud to already support children from local multi-academy trusts and schools as part of their alternative provision arrangements.
However, it is important to note that each school, trust or local authority remains responsible for commissioning provision appropriately and meeting their own statutory duties. Schools and trusts are expected to carry out their own due diligence, safeguarding checks and suitability assessments before placing children with us. We are happy to share all our policies, risk assessments, insurance and references to assist in this process.
All referrals to Smart Hands Studio start with a simple form to help us understand each child’s needs and circumstances. If you would like to make a referral — either privately or as a school or trust — please contact us to request the referral form and discuss availability.
We welcome conversations about how we can tailor our provision to best support your child or pupils. Please get in touch if you have any questions or would like to arrange a visit to see what we offer.
